I have a Dell 4700 that came with Win 7 installed. That works fine.
I also have a HDD from a Dell 4500 that was running XP. I would like to be able to boot this (XP) drive in the 4700. At present, it would be sufficient to do this as the only drive in the box - it doesn't need to be dual boot.
The XP drive does boot in the 4700. However, it needs new drivers for at least the ethernet adapter and the video card. The problem I'm having is, how to get drivers without an internet connection.
On another box, I went to Dell product support with the 4700's service tag. It showed a list of drivers. I downloaded the Network driver (Broadcom R78500.exe), carried it to the 4700, and ran it. After unzipping itself, it showed a 'modify/repair/remove' popup. I chose 'repair'. It said it completed, no error messages. However, Device Manager still says the Ethernet controller has no driver installed.
I did the same procedure with DellSystemDetectLauncher.exe; However, this seems to need an internet connection before it will do anything.
If there's an 'All you gotta do is ...', I'd be happy to hear it. Absent that, a URL for how to get drivers without internet? Or, just a pointer to the right driver?
Thanks
