I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet. I had planned to install Windows 10 and wanted to clear some space on the tablet so I did a windows refresh of my Windows 8.1 OS. That completed successfully, but it now says my windows is not activated and is asking for an activation key. I was never given one by Dell. Since I'm out of warranty, Dell wants a service fee to look at it. Microsoft tried to help me, but couldn't solve it and now wants a very large service fee to try to address it. Is there any solution to this where I don't end up spending a lot of money on a relatively inexpensive two year old tablet? What is the best course of action? I worry either Dell or Microsoft will make a half-hearted attempt and then I'll be out a bunch of money with no resolution.
