Hi all,
I've got a several year old Inspiron 531with an Athlon 64 X2 Processor 4000+ 2.1GHz and 3Gb RAM running Win7 Home Premium.
It's performance is sluggish to say the least. Sometimes it seems fine, and then everything stops for a while, and it starts again. I'm getting 100% CPU at times, although I'm not actively running very much, and I'm sitting at about 1.9Gb memory usage.
I've had a look to see if there's anything hogging the processor, and there's nothing obvious except svchost!
I don't want to go through the grief and cost of a replacement PC, and I have no great desire to upgrade to Win10.
So the question is what can I do to improve performance at minimal impact i.e. I don't want one change to have a knock on requiring the next component down the line to be upgraded? Increase RAM? Change motherboard/processor? I don't need fantastic graphics performance - the PC's mainly just used for connecting to work...a painfully slow process at times.
Any thoughts?
Jerry
