I bought this system with W8.1 almost a year ago, and have been very pleased with it over all. At on point this past summer, however, I had a problem with Windows update. I was advised to call Microsoft, who after trying several things, advised me to do the w.1 restore that doesn't wipe out your files and programs (can't remember the correct name for it). That fixed the update problem, but I noticed that other weird things started happening. A shutdown left the power light on and the disk light flickered for a loooong time before it all went dark. Restarts went the same way, but didn't start back up. Sandboxie stopped working (I've read a whole bunch about that, but haven't made progress). Device manager shows the SM bus controller doesn't have a driver (I've looked here for help, but the solutions offered and tried haven't fixed that. I tried the Dell driver gadget on this site, and all it seems to have done is screwed up my MaxAudio controls. I thought I was making my life easier by not building my latest desktop machine (My XPbox was home built probably 12 years ago, and is still running offline - bulletproof).
So what I want to know is: Is it possible to get a package of ALL the non-Windows software (Dell accessories and Intel chipset drivers and utilities) that came with my 3847? I have a recovery thumb drive, but I can't remember if that's just W8.1, or if it includes the Dell/Intel stuff as well.
In the old days, we'd get an OS recovery disk, and also a supplementary driver/program disk. Ain't progress grand?
Thanks,
Steve
