I just got this Dell XPS 8700 (running windows 8.1) and finally found the Dell Backup and Recovery section. I clicked to create the Rescue Disk but each and every disc I put into the computer to create the Rescue Disk gives me a message that no external drive detected. I have tried multiple different DVD's - DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW and DVD-RW --- all with the same result. How am I supposed to create a rescue disk if it is not recognizing that I have installed the disc to create the rescue disk.
I know that the drive is working since I then tried the option to create a factory backup and it did that with the dvd-r discs no problem. I then tried putting a flash drive in and this time it said that it could not create a rescue disk on a flash drive but would create the Factory Backup on the flash drive.
I don't understand what I am doing incorrectly. I want to create this rescue disk but it is not working. It was bad enough that before buying this computer I checked and it states that "Every Dell system includes a restoration disc which includes the operating system installation as well as any applications and files which were included upon purchase." at

but I did not get that disc when the computer was delivered. I did contact support but still have not heard back.
Can someone please tell me how I can create the rescue disk for my new computer? I did notice that there is an option from Windows to create a recovery drive on the computer - should I be doing that as well ?
Any assistance would be so very much appreciated. Thank You
