I have the PBDS dual layer dvd drive on my dell inspiron 1520 which I got from my phone company back in 2007, The system still works great even with windows 10, but the dvd drive no longer shows in the bios and is no longer detected. I have to use a unbent paperclip to open the drive but it will not spin up....how do I get it to be discovered in bios? I am also wondering about upgrades for this laptop besides a new hard drive, or power adapter or battery. Is there anything available to be able to use bluetooth on this system. it works better than an acer laptop I got when I went to school. and any ideas on renewing the letters and numbers on the keyboard

Broadcom 1704 wireless connection issues after upgrade to windows 10
Experiencing intermittent wireless connectivity issues after upgrade to windows 10; Have an Inspiron 5748 with Broadcom 1704 adapter. Driver is up-to-date: 7.35.295.0. Diagnostics show no problem with device. Will usually successfully connect to network, but the connection will get dropped intermittently. Using troubleshooting to fix does result in restoring connectivity, but it will subsequently drop again intermittently. Never experienced any issues prior to windows 10 upgrade.
Upgrading OptiPlex 780 machines to Windows 10 from 7
I know that Dell does not support the upgrade of the OptiPlex 780 machines to Windows 10 but I work for a small non-profit and we are moving to online products that require Windows 10 and I have to make it work. We have ten of these machines and was hoping that others have done this already and can tell me the pitfalls/fixes.... is there anything I should do first... Bio version? Chipset? etc. I have already upgrades a Latitude E6410 and there were a whole lot of steps to get it to work but there was a lot of info out there on Google to help. Not so with the 780 machines. I do know that I have to upgrade my version of Symantec.
My machines have Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66GHz Q9400 processors and 4 GB Ram with 150 GB capacity.
Any help would be appreciated!

Inspiron 3147 Sleep Mode Doesn't Work
I just purchased a refurbished Inspiron 3147. The computer does not wake from sleep mode. Instead, there is a blip of power and then the system shuts off completely. Some things I have determined through testing and observation:
- The power does come on momentarily. This is confirmed by the flicker of light in the power indicator and the brief charge indicator for a USB connected phone.
- The hard drive does not Shut Down. It just goes dead. I confirmed this by testing a handful of software items, including Open Office, Evernote and Chrome. All had recovery dialogue on restart, though there was no Windows shutdown error dialogue.
- This doesn't matter how sleep mode is initiated. All of my Power Management options are set to Sleep Mode. It happens when I initiate it by closing the laptop lid. It happens when I initiate it through the start menu or charm bar. It happens when I initiate it via the login screen.
There is another issue which may or may not be related and that is the touchpad. I'm given to understand that the touchpad is a real issue with this particular model and I intend to address it in a separate post. For the purposes of this post, I will just say that it will not initiate until I manually go in and disable/reenable the trackpad through the control panel. The trackpad settings are inaccessible on startup through the system tray even though the icon is there and clickable. It just won't load. Sometimes it takes several attempts to load it through mouse settings too.
I have reinstalled the BIOS firmware.
I have downloaded and reinstalled the trackpad driver, though this may be unrelated.
I am at a loss and would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

New hard drive, no OS...
The hard drive in my 3 year old XPS croaked this afternoon. It came with Windows 7 pre-installed, no discs, just directions to online resources. I've purchased a new hard drive, now the problem is getting a copy of the OS from Dell... how on earth do I do that?
Cannot Create USB Recovery
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 13-7352 from Best Buy and I am having some issues with the computer out of the box. I was under a heavy debate with myself on whether to make a switch to Apple with this recent purchase. My main decision for this purchase was based purely on the availability of upgrades to the system. I was really looking for a system with a solid state drive, but I decided that it shouldn't be too hard to upgrade the system with a solid state drive. Before making my purchase I verified that the system would be upgradable with a solid state drive (research on Crucial.com). Along with the purchase of the laptop, I bought a PNY 128GB solid state drive.
Since purchasing the laptop I have been unable to install the solid state drive as I am unable to create a recovery in order to install the operating system on the new drive. When I attempt to create a USB recovery I receive the error "We can't create the recovery drive: A problem occured while creating the recovery drive". There is no other information or code along with this error. I am using a flash drive with at least 16GB of storage. I have tried to use a different flash drive and have tried using a different USB port. I have tried creating the recovery in a clean boot environment (disabling starup items, disabling all non-microsoft services, and restarting the system). I have also recovered the system from the recovery partition and retried all previous troubleshooting. I have also searched the Dell and Windows technical support pages and while I have found that other users are experiencing the same problem, there is no solution posted (answers.microsoft.com/.../be343c15-b2bf-4c62-ad10-e6b79dc29be9 ; commweb-ps3.us.dell.com/.../19646511). I am not sure if this is related, but I did find an error in Event Viewer stating "Cryptographic Services failed while processing the OnIdentity() call in the System Writer Object. Details: AddLegacyDriverFiles: Unable to back up image of binary Microsoft Link-Layer Discovery Protocol. System Error: Access is denied."
I also came accross an issue as I was attempting to submit an email to Dell support on this issue where my wireless adapter became disabled. When I went into the Network Adapter Settings I was unable to enable the wireless apapter. If I rebooted the system, it seemed to resolve the issue for a short time. I then uninstalled the McAfee that was pre-installed on the system and this did not resolve the issue either.
I would really like to get this issue resolved as soon as possible as I have purchased this laptop for work and would like to be able to use it as intended. Yes, I understand that the computer is technically working properly except for the recovery drive tool. However, I don't want to have to install and configure the laptop multiple times before I get to use it. I do really like this laptop and would hate to have to take it back to purchase an Apple.
Inspiron 17R-5720, DW1704, Windows 10
After doing some research, Dell support says my Inspiron 5720 running windows 7 64 bit] has not been tested for windows 10 compatibility. Windows has informed me that my Broadcom Virtual Wireless Adapter is not compatible as well and my DW1704 driver is only listed as working with windows 7. My questions are: If I upgrade, will I still have a wireless connection. If not, are there any updated drivers either available or to be released in the near future.
[HELP] Dell Inspiration 15 3000 Series Network Adapter Connection Problem (Windows 10 Compatibility?)
I've been having a recurring problem with my wifi that comes and goes at random times and at random locations. I recently bought a Dell Inspiration 15 3000 Series which, I must admit, is a fantastic computer with one glaring flaw: the network adapter. It tends to be unpredictable as to when or where it'll happen or as to why, but most commonly, it'll work fine at startup but randomly, the wifi will "flicker" on and off, then eventually, after useless troubleshoots, it'll just say "No Connections Available" and I'll have no internet. The wireless adapter is Disabled and CANNOT be Enabled. The only solution troubleshooter offers is to plug in an Ethernet, but that doesn't solve the issue of a broken wireless adapter...
It came with a Dell Wireless 1704 802.11 Adapter and it appears to be incompatible with Windows 10. The computer itself came with Windows 10, so I can't revert Windows 8, or what have you.
I have tried nearly every trick on the internet. I've done most all things I could find, be it resetting the IP, turning off the "turn off wireless adapter to save power", setting Power Options to Maximum Performance, and everything else. Can anyone help? Or did Dell sell me a faulty Wifi Adapter with no solution? PLEASE HELP! Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated.
dell optiplex 780 win10 drivers + gpu upgrade questions
Hello!
I have an optiplex 780 pc
bios v. a15
core 2 duo e8400
intel q45/q43 chipset
gma 4500
4 gb ddr3
dell f255e 00 255w(?) psu
(without odd)
My questions:
1. Should I install any older vista (x64) or win 7 (x64) for the working win10 (x64) os?
Are there any program/driver for managing intel gma 4500? (didn't find any official for win10 x64)
2. I'd like to install a dedicated low profile video card to my system, but due to the low 255 w psu I'm not sure if this is a good idea, or if its wich video card should I choose. Optiplex 780 datasheet mentions these as graphic options:
All chassis- Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500; MT/DT/SFF- DVI Adapter card; 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT330(MT only); 512MB ATI RADEON HD 4550; 256MB ATI® RADEON® HD 3450; 256MB ATI RADEON HD 3470; 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9300 GE; 512MB NVIDIA NVS420
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help!
Inspiron and Windows 10
On the Dell community page there is the option to have your computer scanned for diagnostics/updates. After having my brand new PC scanned, I was informed that it can upgrade to Windows 10. ???!!! I have Windows 10. How much faith can I put into these diagnostics when they can't even identify what I am running
Just curious
Inspiron 7000 Series 13.3"- Touchpad Issues
My laptop is under warranty until October, and I want to get this sorted out before it expires. Im running windows 10. The touchpad requires about .25" of movement before responding. It makes it very difficult to use in a precision setting like in Photoshop. If a finger is on the touchpad- it's fine and responds properly.
A08 Bios and all drivers are up to date. This seems like an extremely common issue on these laptops and it looks to have been resolved on the XPS 13, but is there any hope for the Inspiron users? It appears to be related to the drivers being built into Windows 10. Any workaround?

Ethernet and WIFI adapters non-responsive (XPS8300)
Hello,
I have an XPS8300 that has served me dutifully for several years. Now suddenly My network adapters for both Ethernet and WIFI have stopped working. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers for both, even replaced the wifi adapter with a newer USB model and still I'm getting the same problem.
The Ethernet is the on-board Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet that came standard with the desktop. The WIFI is a TP-LINK TL-WN823N USB adapter.
My router is a SageMcom Fast4350 which has worked well with my computer for over 2 years.
I could really use some help here, I'm hoping that someone out there has found a working fix for this sort of thing.
